Rhetorical Analysis

(I have to admit I looked at this and was like ‘this isn’t about World of Warcraft’ and then had to remind myself I had finally finished that paper.)

So this reading was all about rhetorical analysis.  A lot of this I was already aware of; we’ve talked about the definition of rhetoric a lot and many of the classic vocab that it refered to was familiar to me from other rhetoric classes I’ve taken. I also have a basic idea of rhetorical analysis; it is carefully studying a text instead of just taking it at face value. It is trying to understand the underlying aspects of the text – who, what, when, where, how – instead of just focusing on the face value of it.

I have a feeling we are reading this because we will have to be doing an analysis ourselves. Not just looking at what other people have analyzed and responding to it but doing our own idea about the text. On the one hand I’m looking forward to it, but on the other hand it sounds like a daunting task; to come up with original analyzation. I have a feeling I will be using both textual and contextual analysis for my argument.
